Open Exchange is built to syncronise across devices. This article covers which features sync and what the exact settings are to achieve that sync.

Email

There are a few ways to achieve email syncronisation:

In order to have your email syncronise with all devices, you should configure an e-mail account. The settings for this are as follows:

Incoming server details:

IMAP

Server: imap.<domain>.<tld> (mail.example.com, for example) OR mail01.hostcontrol.com
Port: 143
Username: Your complete email address, like example@example.com
Password: The password you have set when creating this email address
Security: None

POP

Server: pop.<domain>.<tld> (pop.example.com, for example) OR mail01.hostcontrol.com
Port: 110
Username: Your complete email address, like example@example.com
Password: The password you have set when creating this email address
Security: None

Outgoing server details

Server: smtp.<domain>.<tld> (smtp.example.com, for example) OR mail01.hostcontrol.com
Port: 587
Security: STARTTLS
Login required: Yes
Username: Your complete email address, like example@example.com
Password: The password you have set when creating this email address

User-based sync (Agenda, Mail, Drive)

User-based sync is achieved by getting an object (A folder, a file, or an agenda) to be shared with a different user or multiple users. When an change is made, this will be visible to all users via syncs.

This process works similarly on all features of the Open Exchange platform, like:

  • Mail folders
  • Address books
  • Agenda's
  • Tasks
  • Drive

As an example, this is how an agenda is shared:

  • First, head to the appropriate tab. We want to create an shared calendar, so this would be Calendar:

  • Second, create a new Folder. Since it needs to sync, create a Public Folder:

  • Next, open the Permissions tab of you new folder:

  • As you can see, there is always one user. This is your own user, who is the owner of this calendar. The owner always maintains full rights and can set the rights of users.

  • Use the dialog box at the bottom to add a new user. Once the user is added, you may edit his rights to Guest (read), Author (write), and administrator (management options):

Full account sync

Finally, Open Exchange offers ActiveSync functionality. In order to configure such a sync account, you may set this up as an Exchange account on all major devices. Use the following settings:

Server: sync.hostedox.com
Username: \<your email address in full>
Password: <your email password>

After that, your account should be connected. Features that will syncronise:

  • Mailbox(es)
  • Calendar(s)
  • Tasks
  • Contacts
